The Mind Creates More Stress Than You Realize

Our society values intelligence and living in our mind. Yet most people have a hard time being with their thoughts.

If you find yourself in your head, pushing through a project or trying to solve a problem (like your next step in life, career, relationship), finding your purpose, or even experiencing a big life transition, then you are exhausting yourself without you noticing it.

Leading to more frustration, overwhelm, dissolution, and burnout.

Opening a door to illness and diseases.

You can pivot - like I did - to find clarity, build strength in the comfort and discomfort of life.

In this newsletter you will find:

  • When to identify when your mind is getting in the way

  • The benefits of being more embodied

  • Steps and tools to safely be in your body.

Ready? Let’s dive in.

When The Mind Gets In The Way.

We definitely have a beautiful mind, which has allowed our civilization to create and advance our species.

Yet, that’s the part of our vessel that can get in our way from being present and healing.

Research states that stress and trauma live in the body, and the way to healing is a

bottom-up approach (body, then mind), versus, a top-down approach that most therapists do in therapy (mind first…and if you are lucky, the body). No shame here, it’s just how we’ve been taught.

Our society (and most cultures) value rational, action-oriented, and left-brain approaches - the patriarchal way of thinking.

You may have had  family and community modeling this to you - past down through generations.

Intellectualizing got you far ahead or you learned that’s the way to be seen, to fit in, to feel enough, to be loved.

Mind: A Coping Strategy That Keeps You Stuck.

When we’ve been exposed to living in our heads, this way of living becomes normalized. We don’t listen to the body — telling us to slow down, to say no or yes.

When we do feel a glimpse in our body, our nervous system gets overwhelmed, then quickly the mind becomes the strategy to not feel, and instead thinking our way out of it.

We are hyper-focused on finding the solution outside of us, and stuck in this state of normalized stress.

I grew up in a family system that highly-valued intellectualizing and even thinking-my-feelings.

I would white-knuckle everything - from work to relationships - pushing myself to “fit-in” when I knew deep down, it was a no.

This way of living led to unhealthy relationships and jobs, and issues with health.

I turned my life around. I learned to appreciate both the mind and body as well as allow space to feel more – life is easier to be with this way.

Benefits of Being Embodied.

When you learn the practices to be more in the body, you get to experience:

  • Being more present.

  • Health.

  • Strength to be with challenges and the discomfort of life.

  • Help others by being embodied.

  • Creativity.

  • Set healthy boundaries.

  • Refocusing on what brings you authentic joy and love.

Practices To Be Embodied

  1. Learn to track your sensations. Start by placing awareness of the experiences that feel good.

  2. Learn to be curious - this is the antidote to stress. The moment you are judging you are in the stress response.

  3. Be with an emotion for about 90 seconds. If your mind pops in, go back to the emotion.

  4. Get a somatic practitioner, coach, or therapist who can teach you - it’s a skill that is helpful when someone guides you through it.

Summary

Our world is heading to so much advancement, and this will move us farther away from being embodied.

You can start unlearning what was taught to you, so you can learn to move through life the way you were meant to - both in the mind AND in the body AND have your Soul lead you the way.

Trust me, life gets easier to be with, and so much sweeter. đźĄ°

We are all in this together, and each time, we get better at being human.

Hope you enjoyed this.
